1920 - The First World War, known then as "the war to end all wars" had ended two years earlier and the globe was in the process of getting on with life. The first regular licensed radio broadcasting began on August 26th, Sinclair Lewis’s Main Street, and F. Scott Fitzgerald’s This Side of Paradise were just published. Also, another American business was founded that same year, established on the belief that in this country, if you are honest and work hard you can accomplish anything you put your mind to. That company was Franklin Electric Company, and it’s founder was William T. Walker Sr., a gentleman of great integrity.
William Walker Sr. Mr. Walker chose the company’s name in honor of Benjamin Franklin, of whom he was a great admirer. Philadelphia’s most famous scientist, inventor, and early explorer of electricity was the perfect symbol for the company that Mr. Walker determined would display integrity, independence and innovation. The company’s original office was located on the site of what is now Independence National Historic Park, the home of Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. From modest beginnings the company grew. Nine years later, in 1929, the hopes of many Americans were dashed by the Great Depression. In spite of days when the telephone didn’t ring at all, the doors at Franklin Electric stayed open and the dream lived on.
William Walker Jr. The forty’s came and our country survived another war. William T. Walker Jr. came into the business bringing with him a renewed vision. Franklin Electric was incorporated in 1947, and the business continued to grow with it’s emphasis shifting away from electrical appliances to electrical supplies.
William Walker III William T. Walker III came into the business in 1975, and as current President of the company has carried the vision forward into the new millennium. The principles that drive us today are still the same as those we were founded upon: Ethics and an attitude of servitude in meeting the needs of our customers, suppliers, and employees. Financial integrity in all we do. Providing service that earns the "right" to a customer’s business and emphasizes building long term relationships. Belief that our employees are the greatest resource we have to offer our customers. These are the hallmarks of any partnership we enter into with our customers, suppliers and employees, and they are as fresh and relevant today as they were when the company was founded. As we step forward into the new millennium, we are still growing, still excited about the future, and still believe that in this country if you are honest and work hard you can accomplish great things!
